Photographer of the week: Peter Beste
PETER BESTE
Peter Beste was born in 1978 in Houston (Texas) and is a photographer, mostly known in the metal scene for his works about Black Metal.
Finishing university with a photography degree, Peter Beste starts his project which is picturing Norwegian black metal bands, in order to bring some esthetic in this movement. He stated in an interview: "I think it's important to show the different sides of these people, because they obviously aren't all bad and satanists. Black metal is far more complex than that, and so are my subjects."
After getting in touch with protagonists of the black metal scene, Peter Bester went to Norway during more than 7 years and stayed with them. He later presented his works, mostly through:
->.. A photo book published exclusively in Japan in 2005 ;
->.. A display in Austin (Texas) in 2005 ;
->.. A documentary with Gaahl (Gorgoroth) in five episodes ;
A book named "True Norwegian Black Metal" published June 1, 2008 through Vice Books. This book includes all his studies and works about Norwegian black metal during these 7 years. He collaborated with Metalion from Slayer Magazine for this book. (WIKIMETAL)

Tura, GO!
Two days ago friends and me have watched Russ Meyer's Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!
Wondering what the main characters are doing today I did some research. Varla is the leader of the gang and a smart, dominant, but mean character, a vixen extraordinaire. Of course, Varla has a giant cleavage, hey its a Russ Meyer movie! Tura Satana, it is the actress' name, from japanese and irokese origin. She is in her 70ies now. And I think I'm gonna include her in my heroine-illustration book.

Banksy Simpsons Intro
According to Wooster.com, elusive street artist Banksy directed and storyboarded the opening to the show last night, which featured a dark portrayal of laborers in Asian countries working on "Simpsons" animation and merchandise. Banksy's tag can also be found on several Springfield landmarks throughout the opening.
The intro is a far cry from typical "Simpsons" fare and features some very disturbing commentary, including a dying unicorn enslaved to punch holes in the middle of "Simpsons" DVDs.
The maker of that episode opening got positive feedback for being so self-ironic. The opening is a response to press reports which said that a part of the Simpsons production is going to South Korea.

STROKE 0.3 Berlin - the best illustration fair i've ever been to is right now!
The Stroke is the only fair which is dedicated to Urban Art only. Mostly illustrations are exhibited. I have been to the Stroke 02. in Munich (May 2010) already. It was quite big, distributed on 5 storeys. Here are some impressions of the fair in Munich. So if you got time, just visit the Stroke 03. these days in Berlin, not as big as in Munich, but surely interesting!
